As part of the activities of the EVA4.0 project, the Subprogram 3 has now acquired three custom-made pressure chambers, in which the studied organisms can be exposed to controlled conditions of atmospheric pressure. Thanks to these unique devices it is now possible to observe the biological effects of small changes in pressure. At the same time, it will be possible to influence the changes by sensitive pressure regulation, thereby simulating changes in the Earth's atmospheric pressure, such as the arrival of a cold front (a sharp drop in atmospheric pressure before a storm) or pressure conditions in sunny weather (high pressure).
In that way, live tree seedlings and live insects can be placed in transparent pressure chamber, and exposed to the desired conditions. At the same time the data about pressure are recorded, and insect behaviour or physiological parameters of trees observed.
